I adore a good salvage yard. Not only are you doing a responsible thing by reducing, reusing and recycling, but you’re getting a piece of history- whatever you buy. One of my favorites is Silverlake Architectural Salvage here in Los Angeles. Unbelievable selection of doors, windows, bathroom fixtures, lighting, knobs, mailboxes- you name it. We bought a couple of fireplace mantels here when I was working on the Wedding Special for Design on a Dime, and they totally saved my hiney- since I was low on time and cash. Their prices are reasonable and they’re knowledgeable about inventory- as well as delightful to work with!
